Azul Brazilian Airlines has named longtime Chief Financial Officer John Rodgerson as its new CEO. Rodgerson is replacing Azul founder David Neeleman, who will remain with the São Paulo-based airline as Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Neeleman, who also founded New York-based JetBlue Airways, founded Azul in 2008. The carrier initially operated an all-Embraer E-Jet fleet on domestic Brazil and regional South American flights, but expanded to long-haul flying in late 2014. As CEO, Neeleman also orchestrated the domestic merger of Azul and TRIP Linhas Aereas in 2013.
